SOURDOUGH ANIMAL CRACKERS

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup sourdough discard

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Cream your butter, sugar, and vanilla extract together.

  • Next, add in the remaining ingredients and mix until combined.

  • Refrigerate the dough for 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Once the dough is chilled, preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • On a clean, floured surface roll out the dough to about ¼-inch (6 mm) thickness. Use your animal cracker cookie cutters to cut out the dough.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are golden. Repeat until all of your cookies are baked.

NOTES

This recipe makes about 55 to 60 cookies depending on the size of your cookie cutter.
